The Co-op Code of Conduct

All staff and volunteers must follow the Co-op Code of Conduct.

Taking on a role as a retail staff team member means you agree to these expectations.

General Behaviour and Attitude

  • Treating members, co-workers, and visitors with courtesy and respect
  • Maintaining a positive and helpful attitude
  • Being honest and fair in all Co-op related dealings

Reliability and Punctuality

  • Being on time for shifts or meetings
  • Giving as much notice as possible for absences
  • Taking responsibility for scheduled duties

Teamwork and Cooperation

  • Supporting others in their work when possible
  • Sharing tasks fairly and pulling together during busy periods
  • Being flexible when the team needs it

Respect in the Workplace

  • Treating everyone equally, regardless of background or role
  • Zero tolerance for bullying, harassment, or discrimination
  • Inclusive language and behaviour

Communication

  • Using respectful and professional communication (spoken, written, and digital)
  • Asking questions when unsure and being open to feedback
  • Using appropriate language and tone with customers and co-workers

Representing the Co-op

  • Acting in a way that reflects the Co-op’s values (e.g., sustainability, community, fairness)
  • Avoiding behaviour that could damage the Co-op’s reputation
  • Being mindful of what you say or do in a work or volunteer capacity, especially in public or online
