About the Manly Food Co-op
We first opened our doors in 1997. Keelah Lam, along with a group of like-minded community members, were the driving force behind the Manly Food Co-operative. The group obtained a grant from Manly Council, started a newsletter and the Co-op was born.
We are not your typical grocery store. We are owned and operated by our members and open to everyone. The majority of our products are package-free. The good health of our customers, planet and community is at our heart.

The Manly Co-op Board
Being a co-operative means that we are owned and run jointly by our members, who share in the benefits of the business. We have a volunteer Board of Directors who lead the longer term management of the Co-op.

The Manly Co-op Staff
Most of you will have seen Jen around, particularly over the past 6 months as she’s led the charge for managing the shop during our Covid response. Jen is also running her own catering business, Zing Fresh, and is all about sustainable sustenance that looks beautiful. Jen works Monday to Wednesday, and every second Thursday, so pop in and say hi. Jen is always happy to talk food, recipe ideas and product substitutes.
Tania has been with us off and on for a number of years now but has rejoined the team as our new Office Manager. You will find Tania in the shop still, but she is mostly behind the scenes and ensuring a smooth flow of ordering and business processes. Please say hi when you see her!
Phoebe has volunteered at the co-op for four months and has worked as a staff member for only a month and she is loving it! You can find her at the shop 2-3 days a week. When she is not at the Co-o, Phoebe is cooking gluten-free, vegan treats for her partner’s cafe Sprout, she is making her own sustainable clothing, having adventures in her van, gardening, teaching bush crafts to kids or assiting people with life’s challenges through art therapy.
Staff & Volunteer
I volunteered for 6 months in 2019 and have worked since January 2020. I serve at the register and help with general maintenance and stock take. I am in the shop twice a week – Monday and Saturday evenings.
I have been at the Co-op since 2017. I am on the sales team and you can find me in the shop a few times a week. I’m really happy I work at the Co-op, it’s a wonderful community and I enjoy chatting to our lovely shoppers. It’s great meeting so many people who are passionate about our planet and want to go waste-free. If you see me in the store, please say hi and I will do my best to answer any questions!
I have been a volunteer at the co-op for about 18 months… although I was also a volunteer for a short time about 20 years ago. My role is stocking shelves, always available to offer help with Japanese food as I studied Zen yoga shiatsu and wholefood cooking in Japan. Free Zen yoga class for members at 10.30 am on Sundays.
Enjoy the co-op benefits
